As we’ve previously reported, ConocoPhillips has plans to reopen the Nikiski LNG Facility.
During a conversation today with Sen. Mark Begich, we asked his thoughts on LNG Expansion, specifically on the peninsula.
Sen. Begich: “I am a big fan of this, I think it’s a great opportunity for us for Alaska. When I was mayor I supported it, I supported the extension of the license when I was mayor. As senator I have made my statements very clear that I support the LNG development. This is an incredible opportunity for us as Alaskans to take our product, not only use it for Alaskans but also sell off whatever we have surplus around the globe and create another additional growing economy.”
Sen. Begich said he has been speaking to global entities to find more places to export liquid natural gas from Alaska.
Sen Begich: “Tote shipping which ships products up to here. They now will convert all their ships into LNG powered which is great because that means more product to sell. I met with the governor of Hawaii, talked to him about LNG because they live off of diesel right now. We have some complications because of the Jones Act, but I’ve talked to him about how maybe we can work on some fixes so that they can get LNG from Alaska. So I’m all, I love LNG, the more the merrier and more jobs for Alaskans on that one that’s for sure.”
