Sen. French Offers Resolution for Marriage Equality in Alaska

This morning Senator Hollis French of Anchorage  introduced a resolution to remove the constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in Alaska.

French stated that the nation is in the middle of a long march for marriage equality and that it is a core part of American virtues.

Sen. French(D-Anchorage): “We have a blot or a stain on our state constitution, a blot that SJR 30 seeks to erase. We can wait if we all want to wait for the day and I think the day is coming soon  when the U.S. Supreme Court rules that state prohibitions on same-sex marriage are inconsistent with freedom, with justice, with liberty, and with equality.  And better yet I believe it should be erased by our own actions, by passing this resolution and submitting it to the voters.”

If the resolution to introduce marriage equality passes legislature, Alaskans would vote on the constitutional question this fall.
