Sen. Lisa Murkowski Announces Bid For Reelection

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski has officially announced her intention to run for reelection in 2022, saying she wants to continue representing the state of Alaska.

 

In a video released on YouTube, which indirectly takes a shot at former President Donald Trump, Murkowski says:

“In this election, lower 48 outsiders are going to try to grab Alaska’s Senate seat for their partisan agendas. They don’t understand our state, and frankly, they couldn’t care less about your future. My commitment to Alaska is the same one I made during my first campaign; I will work with anyone from either party to advance Alaska’s priorities. I will always stand up to any politician or special interest that threatens our way of life.”

 

According to the Alaska Division of Elections, Murkowski faces several certified challengers. As of the time of publication, there are nine. One of Murkowski’s more outspoken opponents is former Department of Administration Commissioner Kelly Tshibaka, who has been endorsed for the Republican nomination by Trump. Tshibaka said that she would unseat Murkowski after she voted to convict him during his second impeachment trial, which resulted in a vote to censure from the Alaska Republican Party.

 

The 2022 race will be Alaska’s first using ranked choice voting in the primary and general election.
