U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski spoke from the Alaska State Legislature providing an update on her efforts to represent Alaskans in Washington D.C. The Senator spoke before a joint House and Senate session on strengthening Alaska’s workforce and economy, supporting responsible resource development, improving public safety, advocating for Alaska Natives, and pushing for bipartisan solutions with her colleagues in D.C.
Senator Murkowski discussed resource development by saying that the Biden Administration’s policies make no sense:
“About one third of the gas that comes to the European nations comes from Russia. Now when you have Putin, who is not just threatening he is doing it, you’ve got a real dilemma because, as much as they want to say no Putin you cannot rearrange the global world order, here, they need to keep their homes warm. They need the gas. They are extraordinarily vulnerable. Why don’t we pay attention as a country to that? Why can’t we see that if we put ourselves in a place where we’re relying on others for the oil and the gas that this country’s going to need and the world is going to need, lots of years going forward folks, why can’t we understand the direction that we are headed right now? It is a very precarious place for us if we’re going to say we don’t want to do it here, but we’ll be happy to take it from you China.”
To add to the concern with what Americans are paying at the pump, analysts are now predicting that the price of gas and oil could dramatically increase if Russia invades Ukraine. Russia is the world’s third largest producer of petroleum and the second largest producer of natural gas. Gas experts state that sanctions against Russia could increase the pressure on the oil and gas supplies and increase those prices even more.
