At the joint chamber luncheon Wednesday, August 20, Sen. Lisa Murkowski addressed attendees with an update from Washington D.C.

At one point she spoke about the Kenai Bluffs Project and some of the progress that has been made.

Sen. Murkowski: “Some items progress to full passage and is signature into law, the Water Resources Development Authorization, the WRDA bill, very important for us here in Alaska, it authorizes the Army Corps of Engineers to work infrastructure projects. I mentioned the bank stabilization project here in Kenai, that’s going to be very important for us going forward and with WRDA passing, that’s helpful.”

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch said Sen. Murkowski has already been very instrumental with the project.

Koch: “Senator Murkowski provided the launching pad for the Corps of Engineers to be involved on this project, those appropriations provided both the funding and then there’s through other public law the authorization for the Corps of Engineers to conduct reconnaissance, pre-engineering work on this project. Those appropriations totaled somewhere north of $2 million.”

The City of Kenai recently received confirmation that the Army Corps of Engineers has been able to secure funds for the final feasibility study.
