U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski has again brought forward a bill which aims to fully investigate impacts of “Frankenfish”.
On Friday her office announced a bill which asks for labeling of the product if it gets to market and a “stringent” Environmental Impact Study for areas where the fish would be introduced.
This is a topic Murkowski has been outspoken on for a very long time and in 2012 she introduced it as an amendment.
Sen. Murkowski(R-Alaska): “Which would require NOAA to conduct a full environmental assessment and analysis of economic impacts to affected fisheries before the FDA approves any of these genetically engineered fish.”
