On Monday, Alaska U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan called for John Kerry to resign if press reports are accurate that the former secretary of state reportedly disclosed more than 200 covert attacks by Israel against Iranian interests in Syria. Sullivan made those comments originally on the senate floor Monday. On Thursday, Sullivan and 18 of his senate colleagues signed a letter addressing for President Joe Biden to investigate the allegations against John Kerry.
Kerry, the current special presidential envoy for climate, is accused of disclosing covert Israeli actions against Iranian interests in Syria to Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The allegation comes from an interview with Minister Zarif that was leaked to Iran International, a Persian television channel, before being shared with The New York Times, which wrote an extensive story on the subject Sunday.
Sullivan spoke on the subject to David Westin on BloombergTV’s “Balance of Power”
Sullivan’s colleagues who signed the letter include Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and James Lankford (R-Okla.). They called on President Biden to suspend Kerry’s access to sensitive information until the investigation is completed.
