In recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day, Senator Dan Sullivan has extended the deadline for his student public service announcement competition to May 31, 2025. This competition invites high school students across Alaska to create short, impactful video or audio PSAs (30–60 seconds) warning about the deadly risks of fentanyl and the danger of taking a single non-prescription pill.
The initiative is part of Sen. Sullivan’s broader “One Pill Can Kill Alaska” campaign, launched last year, which aims to raise awareness and prevent drug-related deaths, particularly among youth.
Since launching the campaign, Sullivan has held events and listening sessions in numerous communities nationwide. He emphasizes the importance of youth involvement in spreading this life-saving message and believes empowering students to lead peer education efforts is key to combating the crisis.
“On National Fentanyl Awareness Day, we raise up the memory of the lives lost to the devastating fentanyl crisis and the enduring work done by many of their loved ones to educate the public about the dangers of this deadly drug,” Senator Sullivan said. “Fighting this horrendous plague on our communities means enlisting the help of all Alaskans. After hearing from youth across Alaska, it became clear that in order for us to succeed, young Alaskans in particular need to play a big role. I’ve invited all Alaska high school students to craft brief and compelling audio and video public service announcements to inform their peers about the reality that taking just one non-prescription pill can kill. If this campaign can even save one life of a precious young Alaskan, it will have been worth it.”
All Alaskan high schoolers (grades 9–12) can participate individually or in teams, using any available technology.
Winning entries will be featured statewide on local TV, radio, and Sen. Sullivan’s social media platforms.
The competition encourages creativity, positive messaging, and informed decision-making.
Winners will be announced on June 30.
