Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan appeared recently on the Fox Business channel with Neil Cavuto talking of the possibility of American energy production weakening Russian President Vladimir Putin’s grip – if President Joe Biden wouldn’t shut it down. Sullivan says Putin’s latest effort is to weaponize Russian energy supplies against European allies and calls upon the White House to unleash American energy.
Sen. Sullivan says:
“It’s not surprising. Putin has been using energy as a weapon for decades. What he’s doing right now is in line with what he’s done in the past. We’re in this new era of authoritarian aggression with the dictators in Moscow, Putin and Beijing, Xi Jinping, but one of our great strategic advantages that we have as a country is our natural resources, is our energy reserves and supplies. We can help our allies. We should be helping them.”
According to ABC News, Russia has halted oil and gas supplies to two NATO nations – Poland and Bulgaria – for not paying for it in Rubles. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy says it’s an example of how Russia is weaponizing commodities as the war in Ukraine drags on.
Sullivan says Americans want relief at the pump:
“Unfortunately right now, the Biden Administration in terms of energy is continuing the undermine the production of American energy. I’ll tell you this, it’s hurting American families.”
The move also could have an affect on gasoline prices here in the United States. They are starting to move upwards as the national average is now around $4.15 per gallon for regular. The statewide average in Alaska is $4.65, according to AAA.
