U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, which would raise the Department of Defense’s budget by $25 billion to recommendations consistent with the National Defense Strategy Commission. It includes numerous Arctic and Alaska priorities, according to Sullivan. The bill now goes to President Biden’s desk for his signature.

Sullivan says that the NDAA includes numerous provisions for Alaska, including $155 million for military construction, and a new Arctic Security Initiative that aims to resource and integrate Alaska into the larger defense strategy. Sullivan says that Alaska has become the focal point for Arctic security endeavors for America and allies through the world.
