Senate Passes Capital Budget

The Alaska Senate passed one of lowest capital budgets seen in recent years at $1.5 billion.

The Finance Committee passed the capital budget which includes $113 million in general funding.

That bill includes up to $5 million to respond to the ongoing Dalton Highway flooding along with other supplemental spending.

As Governor Walker had proposed, the budget eliminates the one-time education fundings of $52 million for next year and 2017 which had been approved by legislators last session.

$43 million in funding for the new school in Kivalina was included.

That capital budget must still be approved by the house
