The Senate Rules Committee voted unanimously to create a Senate Special Committee on Federal Overreach.
That special committee would address how Alaska can use state authority to oppose what it calls unconstitutional exercises of federal power and submit their findings in reports to the Senate for January 2016 and 2017.
The reports would also look at other states in similar situations who might be willing to work with Alaska.
The resolution passed by the Senate suggests the governor form another group to focus on state and federal relations.
The committee investigating overreach would be comprised of five members and terminate in January of 2017.
The costs were expected to be absorbed into the legislative budget.
