Senate to Review AGDC Appointees

Governor Walker’s appointments to the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. board will today face the Senate Finance Committee.

Senators will get a chance to examine the credentials of Rick Halford, Joe Paskvan and Hugh Short.

Anchorage Democrat Bill Wielechowski asked for a legal opinion on whether the Governor upheld the requirements of an AGDC member when he appointed the three men.

By law the Governor must take into account the individual’s expertise and experience in operating, building and marketing gas pipelines; finance, large project management and other relevant experience.

A legislative attorney says the law is broad enough that the Governor’s appointees are unlikely to face any legal challenges.

If approved by lawmakers, the three men will replace the members removed by Walker earlier this year, including former pipeline and oil company executives.
