Senator Mark Begich said he supports the recent sanctions ordered by President Barack Obama Thursday in response to the crisis in Crimea.

Sen. Begich: “I think we should do whatever is necessary to make sure its clear that people can have the right to have their government as they see fit and not have Russia come in there and bully them.”

President Obama ordered financial sanctions against individuals and corporations the Administration sees as destabilizing Ukraine or involved in the crisis in Crimea. He also spoke against the referendum proposed by the Crimean parliament.

We also spoke to Representative Don Young about the proposed sanctions earlier this week.

Rep. Young: “The sanction concept is real, and I think that will work because Russia just went to the Olympics and they were trying to make a good impression on the world and they did a fair job and they don’t want to totally destroy it by the activity in the Ukraine so I think you’re going to see some of his troops pulled out or no new troops added, I’m talking about Putin.”
