Senator Murkowski Doubtful About Trump’s Political Future

As the unprecedented second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump continues in the U.S. Senate, Senator Lisa Murkowski has been one of a handful of Republicans who has shown signs that she may vote to convict.

Murkowski voiced her concern about President Trump’s role in the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. She also was one of a handful of Republicans to vote in favor of the constitutionality of the hearing.

Even if the Senate votes to acquit Trump, the Senator feels there is little chance that he would be successful in running for office again.

She told the press on Wednesday: “I am looking at what we’re seeing now. I have said that I will look to the evidence that is presented. The evidence that has been presented thus far is pretty damning, but I also know that I have an obligation and responsibility and one that I accept – to listen to what the defense will present. This series of videos that we’ve seen, again, are reminders of what we all lived through…and unfortunately, what some did not live through, is greatly, greatly disturbing.”

Murkowski added: “Frankly, I don’t see how after the American public sees the full story laid out, not just in one snippet on this day and another on that, but this whole scenario that has been laid out before us, I just don’t see how Donald Trump could be re-elected to the Presidency again.”
