Senators React to Shell Decision

Royal Dutch Shell PLC said it will suspend and possibly withdraw its operations completely from Alaska’s Arctic shores.

 

Senator Lisa Murkowski gave a brief response to the decision.

 

Murkowski: “Very troubling, to me. 

 

Senator Mike Begich also responded saying he will speak to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell in the hopes that her agency will move quickly to move beyond this setback and get the process back on track.

 

Over the past two years Shell has faced various setbacks and continues to fight legally with environmentalists who challenge the government’s 2008 decision to open the area to exploration. Last week Shell received a negative federal court decision saying that the Department of the Interior violated a law when it opened the 30 million acres.
