Both Lanes Of Sterling Highway Are Open After Accident Previously Closed It At Mile 85.5

2:40pm- Final Update – Both lanes of the Sterling Highway are now open.

 

1:00 PM Update – One lane of traffic is now open. Please drive with caution as crews are still on scene.

 

ORIGINAL: A reported serious accident has temporarily closed the Sterling Highway. The accident took place at mile 85.5 of the Sterling Highway which is located where the KPB Solid Waste – Sterling Transfer Facility. No other information is known at this time.

 

Due to the collision, the highway will be intermittently closed as emergency personnel work the scene of the collision. Try and avoid the area and yield to response vehicles.

 

The Kenai Peninsula Borough states that ground and air support will be in the area for several hours.
