Setnetting Extended, Drift Gillnetting Opens for Monday

Commercial fishing with setnets in the Kenai, Kasilof, and East Foreland sections is extended from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Monday, August 3.

 

A commercial fishing period for drift gillnetting will open in the Expanded Kenai and Expanded Kasilof sections along with the lower subdistrict’s Anchor Point section from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm on Monday, August 3.

 

The estimated cumulative passage of sockeye salmon in the Kasilof River through August 2 was approximately 416,000 fish.

 

The biological escapement goal for Kasilof River sockeye salmon is 160,000–340,000 fish, while the optimal escapement goal is 160,000–390,000 fish. Both the SEG and the OEG have been exceeded.

 

The cumulative sockeye salmon passage estimate in the Kenai River through August 2, was approximately 968,000 fish. The inriver goal for Kenai River sockeye salmon runs of 2,300,000– 4,600,000 fish is 1,000,000 to 1,200,000.

 

The current estimate of passage in the Kenai River through August 2 indicates the inriver goal will be met or exceeded.
