The Seward Fire Department celebrated another successful year of serving the community at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday, March 7th 2024.
Every year, the Seward Fire Department honors the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of their members through these awards; this year’s recipients are examples of these qualities. The awardees are nominated by their peers for exceptional service to their community during the previous year.
“Our volunteers serve our residents and visitors of Seward throughout all hours of the day and night, and do so with very little praise.” said Seward Fire Chief Clinton Crites.
The following individuals were recognized for their special achievements in 2023:
- Firefighter of the Year: Wendy Rogers
- Distinguished Service Award: Katrina Rix
- Chief’s Award: Morgan and Andra Woodard
- Community Service Award, Individual Citizen: Elle Zernia
- Community Service Award, Organization: Safeway with Linda Howard and Athena Kershner
- Most Calls Ran (178) Lisa Musick. Most Training Hours (194 hrs) Katrina Rix
- Also noteworthy were the Recognition of years of service: Alicia Corrigan and Sean Carrington
for 15 yrs. of service as auxiliary members. - Tyler Mallory, Gerold Orton, Jeremy Rogers, Wendy Rogers, and Ali Whillhite were pinned as our newest Firefighter 1’s after completing over 200 hours of training over the past year.
- Evan Hinton, Katrina Rix, and Morgan Woodard were recognized for completing Firefighter 2.
- Tyler Mallory was pinned as Seward’s Fire Marshal.
- Morgan Woodard received the State of Alaska’s Firefighter of the Year for 2023!
The Seward Fire Department along with its dedicated volunteers responded to 507 calls for service in 2023. Not all volunteers are Firefighters, the fire department has non-certified (Auxiliary) members that assist with many other aspects of the department.
