Seward Inmate Facing Charges for Two Attempted Murders While in Custody

For the second time in five years, a 47-year-old Spring Creek Correctional Center inmate has been accused of attempted murder, according to public records.

 

Although the alleged attack occurred on August 4, five felony charges were filed by prosecutors Tuesday against Mark Spencer in the state court.

 

Spencer has been an inmate at the Seward facility since 2008 according to the Department of Corrections. In 2011 he plead guilty to attempted murder of a fellow inmate in a case that involved an aluminum baseball bat.

 

 

Online court records show that in addition to one count of first-degree attempted murder, Spencer now also faces two charges of assault with a weapon, third-degree assault and promoting contraband including a deadly weapon.

 

His first scheduled court appearance is December 16.
