Seward Lagoon Youth Only Fishing Weekend

Author: KSRM News Desk |

The Seward Lagoon is hosting a youth only fishing weekend, ending Sunday night.

At 12:01 am this morning the youth only fishery opened to anglers 15 years or younger and for this weekend the harvest limit has been increased to six fish per day and in possession.

This opening is due to a much better than anticipated return along the beaches of Seward and the Seward Lagoon from the over 200,000 coho salmon smolt which were stocked in the Lagoon last year.

According to an evaluation of the Lagoon and stream leading into the lagoon just prior to this opening, there were approximately 1,000 coho salmon in the stream.

A single-hook with bait or a single-hook artificial lure with or without bait may be used by young anglers however snagging and multiple or treble hooks are prohibited.
