The City of Seward is looking to fill seats on its Port and Commerce Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Commission, and Planning and Zoning Commission.

Seward City Clerk Johanna Kinney said both the Planning and Zoning and the Historic Preservation Commissions have multiple seats available.

Kinney: “They’re all really essential and key boards and commissions but not keeping a full planning and zoning commission is a concern of a lot of the city elected officials and city staff.

Kinney said the P&Z has had opens seats for some time now and initially thought it was due to the fact that members had to fill out an in depth financial disclosure statements that become public record.

Kinney: “A couple years ago the city council asked the voters to vote to opt out of the more stringent state requirements and now we have kind of a looser adoption of disclosure statements that I think people will find are a little bit more reasonable if they’re interested.”

The P&Z openings also require applicants to live in Seward due to the fact that it is an advisory body along with a decision making body.

Kinney said anyone interested in any of the positions may stop by or call the City Clerks office.
