In March 2021, the Seward Police Department received a cyber-tip through the Anchorage Police Department, Alaska’s leading agency for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Investigators opened up an investigation based on the information and obtained a search warrant for the residence of 59-year-old Douglas Maliski, according to a Monday press release from the Seward Police Department.
The search warrant was executed with a joint operation, involving the Seward Police Department, The Anchorage Cyber Crimes Unit, and the Alaska State Troopers Technical Crimes Unit. Seward Police Department seized Maliski’s laptop, cell phone, and hard drives.
After a digital forensic examination of Maliski’s electronic devices, the Seward Police Department requested an arrest warrant for Maliski to answer for the charges of 1 count of Distribution of Child Pornography and 4 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. On November 15, 2021, Maliski was arrested on the arrest warrant.
The investigation has revealed no local victims at this time.
The Seward Police Department expressed thanks to the Anchorage Police Department, Alaska State Troopers, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for their assistance in the case.
