The Seward Science Symposium is just around the corner, and registration is now open! This free event, held on Sept. 7, will run from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will be held at the K.M. Rae Marine Education Building, 125 Third Avenue in Seward.

The annual science symposium is an event focused on highlighting local science and research.

According to Symposium officials, the “goal is to raise the visibility of and support for science in the surrounding community, including Indigenous-led research, and build a local sense of pride, identity, stewardship, and enhanced connection to our environment.”

Additionally, participants will hear talks and view posters from local marine scientists on topics ranging from seabirds and fish to ocean monitoring and bats.

Attendees of all ages can meet ocean scientists and explorers and contribute to a community art project.

Additionally, on the evening of Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m., participants can attend an early “poster session,” where they will hear talks and view posters from local marine scientists. They can also learn about research projects happening in Seward by perusing scientific posters and enjoying art featured by local artist Marissa Beck. Walk-ins are welcome for the poster session.

The Seward Science Symposium is free to attend; however, registering will allow attendees to secure their spot for presentations on Saturday, as seating is limited.
