In Tuesday’s municipal election Seward residents will decide on candidates for four City Council seats.
Deputy City Clerk of Seward Brenda Ballou said the only one year seat available was left vacant by long time Seward resident and Council Member Vanta Shafer who passed away in January.
Ballou: “Been in Seward for decades and ran the cover to cover book store with her husband Bob who’s still running it and she started the Seward Journal newspaper about 3 or 4 years ago and she was very active and involved. She worked at the hospital, she taught, she worked at the prison so she was really involved with the community. We miss her.”
Iris Darling is currently holding that position and the only candidate running for that spot.
The other three 2-year terms have incumbents Marianna Keil, Dale Butts, Rissie Casagranda as candidates as well as John French.
Seward has no initiatives on their municipal election ballot.
