It is now almost September and the silver salmon were few and far between for sport fishermen on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers.

Pawluk: “It’s looking like this run is going to be low and if it was a late run, we would’ve expected to see them by now so it’s looking that we’re mirroring what the other streams in Cook Inlet are seeing, which are low runs of coho salmon.”

Now that reds are spawning in Kenai and Skilak Lakes and the rest of salmon fishing is wrapping up, Jason says there’s still more fishing to come.

Pawluk: “What people are starting to gear up for now and actually it’s going on as we speak for kings, is a lot of people switching their gear to fishing with beads that imitate salmon eggs and they’ll start fishing behind spawning kings and reds and try to target rainbow trout and Dolly Varden.”
