Six candidates have been certified for the three open seats in this October’s Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly elections.

 

The seat seeing the most competition so far is K-Beach’s District one; incumbent member Kelly Wolf has filed for reelection along with Robin Davis, David C. Wartinbee, and Gary Knopp.

 

Running for his second term, Wolf said he hopes to see his recently introduced K-Beach service area created, which would require the City of Soldotna to put the annexation decision to voters.

Wolf: “My neighbors are upset about Soldotna wanting to annex just the business district just for revenue and not provide services.”

 

He said he is not finished with the anadromous stream ordinance either.

Wolf: “I believe very strongly that we do need to rework the overreach of that anadromous ordinance. I think it’s more of a private property issue than a fish [issue].”

 

Wolf recently attempted to limit the anadromous stream restrictions to only the Kenai and Kasilof River watersheds which failed.

 

Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship said there is one candidate for each of the other open assembly seats.

Blankenship: “For District 6, which is East Peninsula(Seward), we currently have Ken Carpenter; and for District 9, South Peninsula, we have William R. ‘Willy’ Dunn.”

 

The borough’s candidacy filing period closes August 17 at noon.
