The 2019 Alaska Junior Golf State Championship featured two rounds of competition in six age categories and award state championships to female and male golfers, ages 9-18, on Wednesday following the tournament’s final round at the Birch Ridge Golf Course.
Junior golfers in the younger divisions: Girls 10 & under, Boys 9 & under, Girls 11-13 and Boys 10-12, played two nine-hole rounds over two days; while the Girls 14-18 and Boys 13-15 age groups played 18-hole rounds over two days at Birch Ridge Golf Course.
Elizabeth Kim, in the girls 14-18 division, shot the best two-round score of the tournament with a 157 and the best single round, 18-hole total of 76.
State Champions by division include:
Girls 10 & under Cierra Stuyvesant 61, 60 total 121
Boys 9 & under Colton Dreyer 52, 51 total 103
Girls 11-13 Kaira Deland 55, 49 total 104
Boys 10-12 Adam Coghill 43, 44 total 87 Coghill shot 44 to take a one stroke victory over Josh Cowen (41,47).
Girls 14-18 Elizabeth Kim 81, 76 total 157 Kim shot only round under 80 by any junior golfer.
Boys 13-15 Shane Sundberg 81, 88 total 169 Sundberg repeats as Boys 13-15 champion (2018 two-day total 177).
