The Department of Health and Social Services announced 199 new people identified with positive COVID-19 tests in Alaska across the past two days of reporting, on Wednesday and Thursday’s reports. The Kenai Peninsula saw five new reported cases during that period: three cases are Kenai residents, two are Soldotna residents, and one is a Seward resident. One new death was also announced in the state.

The majority of the state’s new cases over the past two days came from Anchorage where 89 residents tested positive.

There are currently 4,519 active cases of COVID-19 among Alaska residents. 199 of those cases are residents of the Kenai Peninsula. Among the current active cases, 67 are in Soldotna, 60 in Kenai, 36 in Homer, and 15 in Sterling.

The Kenai Peninsula’s rate positivity in daily tests was at 2.23%. This has been the first time the percentage has been over 2.0% sine August 24.

Schools throughout the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District remain open to in-school learning, despite the increased cases. The Central, Southern, and Eastern portions of the district remain in the Green low-risk level.
