Skiers Compete In Freestyle Events During Day-2 Of State Nordic Ski Championships

The 2021 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Nordic Skiing State Championships featured freestyle skiing on the second day of competition on the trails at the Government Peak Recreation Area outside of Palmer.

 

Friday’s races featured the Girls 5K Interval Start Freestyle Technique Race followed by the Boys 7.5K Interval Start Freestyle Technique Race.

 

Girls 7.5K Interval Start Freestyle Technique Race

The Girls 7.5K race saw Quincy Donley of West hold-off Katey Houser of Palmer, with Donley posting a winning time of 23:38.9.  Kenai’s Jayne Boonstra posted the fastest time from the peninsula skiers, finishing 22nd overall at 26:40.7.  Erika Arthur recorded SoHi’s fastest time, finishing 28th at 27:18.4; SoHi’s Katie Delker placed 35th overall at 28:08.4.

 

Boys 10K Interval Start Freestyle Technique Race

Chugiak’s Mikael Earnhart posted the fastest time in the Boys 10K freestyle and the fastest individual time for a second-straight day.  Earnhart recorded a time of 25:40.5.   Quinn Cox of SoHi again lead all peninsula skiers with a 29th place overall and a course time of 30:01.4.  Kenai’s Tyler Hippchen topped the Kardinal skiers finishing 34th overall with a time of 30:40.2.
