Patrick Slate was sentenced to a total of two years, three months in jail consecutively with varied conditions and four years parole after one of the worst domestic violence events ever seen on the peninsula.
Slate’s young victim appeared in court at the sentencing with her and Slate’s baby who was born on August 30, which Slate was allowed to be present at. She stated that “he is a good person, the media presented their version of the story”. She has requested visitation with Slate since initial court hearings and continued to defend him at the sentencing.
State attorney Kelly Lawson further detailed the case stating that pictures, which the judge noted looked nothing like the young victim in the courtroom, showed scratches, a bite mark, bruises, a cigarette burn, and burns from boiling liquids which were all inflicted by Slate.
Slate also cut the victims’ hair off, placed it in bags, and put it in the attic.
The state requested the highest possible sentence.
Slate was arrested on January 11 when Soldotna Police responded to a welfare check at the residence and discovered a 21-year-old woman had been immersed in a pot of boiling liquid, sustaining 2nd degree burns across her face, neck, and upper torso. Initially her injuries were life threatening.
