Around 6:30 this morning Central Emergency Services responded to King Salmon Ave. off of Funny River for a report of a residence filled with dense smoke.
Crews arrived within ten minutes and Safety Officer Brad Nelson with CES said all occupants were out of the house and there were no visible flames.
Nelson: “The area of origin that we’re looking at, there was a fan that was in there near a water boiler that needed constant air movement around it so pipes wouldn’t freeze, they had a little plastic fan in there and we’re not sure if it was a malfunction of the fan or a pet knocked it over, several things that could have happened but we do think it was in that area. So we’re suspecting that fan right now but we’re going to continue the investigation.”
Nelson said the fire likely started near the boiler and because there was no flammable materials near the origin, worked its way down into the crawlspace.
Nelson: “The occupants were awakened by the smoke alarms that just two days before he had changed out the batteries on and tested to make sure that they were still working so good on him. Another good save for smoke alarms and just a reminder to everyone that if you haven’t changed your batteries or tested in a while it’s a great time to get that done.”
There were no injuries, including pets, and the damages are estimated at $25,000.
