The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Kenai Peninsula. Thursday morning, November 16th, commuters should expect a quick burst of snow across Southcentral Alaska that could create challenging driving conditions. A fast moving cold front will begin spreading in from the west and across the Susitna and Matanuska valleys, western Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage area around 6 am Thursday morning. Snowfall rates will peak between 8 am and 9 am then taper off quickly by midday.

Expect 1 to 2 inches of snow along lowland areas with up to 3 inches possible along the Anchorage Hillside, the northern Susitna valley and in surrounding mountains. In the addition to the potential for slippery roads, cold temperatures will allow for snow to easily be blown around by traffic leading to significantly reduced driving visibilities at times.

The areas included in the special weather statement include Anchorage-Matanuska Valley-Western Kenai Peninsula-Susitna Valley- Including the cities of Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian, Eklutna,  Palmer, Wasilla, Sutton, Chickaloon, Kenai, Soldotna, Homer,  Cooper Landing, Talkeetna, Willow, and Cantwell.
