Tuesday, May 13

Soldotna Boys 12, Nikiski 0
Soldotna rolled to a 12-0 conference win over a coed Nikiski squad Tuesday, improving to 5-0 in league play and 9-4 overall.

 

With most starters resting after a Southeast trip, SoHi still built a 5-0 halftime lead behind goals from James Alden, Scott Bieber (twice), Ryan McVey, and Chayton Uribe-Koivisto. In the second half, Lane Hillyer, Daniel Heath, Brody Linton, Jonas Albrecht, Luke Hillyer, and Quinten Wolverton added goals.

 

Phoenix Goolsby earned the shutout in net.

 


Thursday, May 15

Soldotna Girls 2, Palmer 2
The Stars settled for a 2-2 draw with Palmer in nonconference play, moving to 7-4-1 overall. Jillian Duncan opened the scoring in the 42nd minute off assists from Rowan Peck and Sadie Lane, but the Moose tied it just two minutes later.

 

Peck put SoHi ahead again in the 63rd minute, only for Palmer to equalize with 11 minutes left. The game was scoreless at halftime.

 

The tie marked the first of two for the Stars on the week.

 

Soldotna Boys 1, Palmer 1
Soldotna tied Palmer 1-1 in a hard-fought road match to improve to 9-4-1 overall. Elijah Von Gunten, who torched SoHi in the hockey state final, scored early for Palmer.

 

SoHi equalized in the 32nd minute when Daniel Heath headed in a cross from Simon Willets. Heath nearly had a second, hitting the crossbar twice.

 

The Stars also had a potential goal called back after a ruled non-touch on a throw-in.

 


Friday, May 16

Kenai Boys 13, Nikiski 0
Kenai Central coasted to a 13-0 win over Nikiski in conference play, improving to 3-1-1 in league and 9-4-2 overall. Sawyer Vann had a hat trick and two assists.

 

Cole Langham added two goals and an assist, while Tyler Jackman and Ryker Dykema each had a goal and two assists. Additional goals came from Eli Smith, Brett Goldsby, Lucas Swanson, Zane James, and Reid Titus.

 

For Nikiski, Dylan Hall made several saves in net, while Frank Nasibog, Jayden Anderson, and Gavin Carmody stood out.

 

Soldotna Girls 1, Grace Christian 1
The SoHi girls earned another draw Friday, this time 1-1 at Grace Christian, moving their record to 7-4-2. Jillian Duncan tied the match in the 72nd minute off a Rowan Peck assist.

 

The Stars had trailed since the first half and leaned on consistent midfield play to keep pressure on Grace. It marked back-to-back ties after another even result the day before in Palmer.

 

Soldotna Boys 3, Grace Christian 2
Soldotna bounced back with a 3-2 comeback win over Grace. The Stars struck first in the second minute on a goal from Quinten Wolverton off a Johnny Wardas cross.

 

After Grace scored twice off rebounds and mistakes, SoHi equalized in the 73rd minute on a Lane Hillyer goal assisted by Owen Buckbee. In stoppage time, Hillyer netted the game-winner off a rebound from a Trae Pitsch free kick.

 

SoHi moved to 10-4-1 overall.

 


Saturday, May 17

Soldotna Girls 9, Houston 0
The Stars closed out the week with a dominant 9-0 win at Houston, improving to 8-4-2. Jillian Duncan scored five goals—two unassisted, two assisted by Teagen Kobylarz and Alexis Verba, and one off a McDonald-Lane combo.

 

Kobylarz added two goals, Rowan Peck scored on a penalty kick, and Johana Jedlicka and Sadie Lane added assists in the route.

 

Soldotna Boys 11, Houston 0
Soldotna capped its week with an 11-0 shutout at Houston to move to 11-4-1. The Stars scored five goals in the first 11 minutes and led 8-0 at half. Luke Hillyer earned the clean sheet in net.

 

Harold Rudstrom, Simon Willets, Daniel Heath, Lane Hillyer, Jonas Albrecht, Ryatt Weed, and Ely Campbell all scored, with multiple assists from Johnny Wardas, Lane Hillyer, Ryan McVey, and Owen Buckbee.
