Soldotna Girls 2, Kenai 0
In their third meeting of the season, the Soldotna girls finally broke through with a 2-0 win over rival Kenai at Justin Maile Field. The Stars improved to 3-1 in Peninsula Conference play and 9-4-2 overall, while the Kardinals dropped to 3-1 in conference and 10-3 overall.
Jillian Duncan opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing a cross from Jazzalynn McDonald on a play the Stars had emphasized in practice. Duncan then assisted Mia Hannevold for a headed goal off a corner in the 36th.
Kenai improved in the second half but couldn’t find the net. SoHi keeper Ryan Queen sealed the shutout with a key save in the 78th minute.
Soldotna Boys 2, Kenai 0
Soldotna completed a three-game season sweep of Kenai with a 2-0 win to finish a perfect 6-0 in Peninsula Conference play and 12-4-1 overall. The Kards fell to 3-2-1 and 9-5-2.
Simon Willets converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute after Lane Hillyer was fouled in the box. With Kenai pressing for an equalizer late, Hillyer scored again off a counterattack assisted by Harold Rudstrom.
SoHi’s defense, anchored by Luke Hillyer in goal and Liam Peck at center back, held strong. Kenai’s best look came from Enrique Mercado in the 64th minute, but his strike just missed.
Friday, May 23rd
Soldotna Girls 5, Houston 0
The Stars closed out their regular season with a 5-0 win over Houston at home, finishing 10-4-2.
Teagan Kobylarz opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Jillian Duncan had a goal and two assists, while Rowan Peck, Jazzalynn McDonald, and Kendra Rose added to the scoring. Ryan Queen and Avery Powell combined on the shutout.
SoHi honored seniors Anika Jedlicka, Sadie Lane, Jazzalynn McDonald, Kendra Rose, Keely Sundberg, Avery Walden, and Chloe See.
Soldotna Boys 1, Houston 0
Ryatt Weed scored in the 4th minute off a Jonas Albrecht assist as Soldotna held on to win 1-0 and finish the regular season at 13-4-1.
Despite beating Houston 11-0 just a week earlier, head coach Erik Dolphin said the Hawks came ready to play, and his squad had to grind out the result.
Weed was among the seniors honored alongside Simon Willets, Ryan McVey, Daniel Heath, Marshall DeRaeve, Ely Campbell, Harold Rudstrom, and Albrecht.
Saturday, May 24th
Kenai Girls 7, Palmer 0
The Kardinals ended their regular season at 11-3 with a commanding win over Palmer on senior day.
Brynnen Hanson had a hat trick, Christine Goering scored twice, and Ellee Pancoast and Katie Johnson added goals.
Kenai honored a large senior class: Tait Cooper, Sarah Baisden, Kate Wisnewski, Johnson, Pancoast, Alexis Taylor, Seanna Swanson, Maddie Malone, Goering, Flokarta Hoxha, and Cemre Akgul.
Palmer Boys 2, Kenai 1
Palmer edged Kenai to spoil the Kards’ senior day, dropping Kenai to 9-6-2 to end the season.
Sawyer Vann equalized in the 36th minute after Palmer took the early lead, but the Moose scored the winner off a long throw-in in the 65th.
Kenai honored seniors Mercado, Grimm, Langham, Vann, Dykema, Wisnewski, Hayes, James, Liles, Harris, and Mosquito.
Houston Boys 15, Nikiski 0
Nikiski wrapped up its season at 0-10 after a lopsided nonconference loss to Houston.
Despite the result, coach Horst Haunold praised the resilience of Dylan Hall, Frank Nasibog, Emily Brannen, and Jayden Anderson, noting a short bench limited defensive options.
