Tuesday, May 6

Soldotna Girls 2, Homer 0
The Soldotna girls picked up a 2-0 Peninsula Conference win over Homer at Justin Maile Field. Emma Glassmaker opened the scoring with an assist from Jazzalynn McDonald, and Jillian Duncan added a second goal off a corner from Teagen Kobylarz.

 

Goalkeeper Ryan Queen earned the clean sheet as SoHi improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

 

The defense held strong throughout, limiting Homer’s attacking chances and controlling possession for much of the match. Homer fell to 0-3 in league play with the loss.

 

Soldotna Boys 1, Homer 0
Trae Pitsch delivered the game-winner in stoppage time, lifting Soldotna to a dramatic 1-0 win over Homer. Johnny Wardas set up the late strike, while goalkeeper Luke Hillyer recorded the shutout with several crucial saves.

 

Despite being outplayed for much of the game, the Stars capitalized late and improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Peninsula Conference action. Homer controlled possession for long stretches but couldn’t break through against a solid SoHi defense.

 


Thursday, May 8

Kenai Girls 2, Grace Christian 1
Kenai earned a gritty 2-1 road win over Grace Christian to improve to 7-2 on the season. Ellee Pancoast scored first off an assist from Christine Goering, giving the Kardinals a 1-0 lead at the break. Brynnen Hanson added a late insurance goal in the 80th minute, set up by Tait Cooper.

 

Grace scored in stoppage time but couldn’t complete the comeback. Kenai’s defense held firm throughout, and the midfield controlled tempo for much of the game.

 

Kenai Boys 2, Grace Christian 0
The Kardinals notched a 2-0 shutout over Grace behind two goals from Sawyer Vann and a strong defensive performance. Bradley Morrison made several key saves to earn the clean sheet, while midfielders Enrique Mercado and Carson Grimm dictated play.

 

The win lifted Kenai to 6-4-1 on the season in what head coach Shane Lopez called one of the team’s most complete performances.

 

Soldotna Girls 2, Juneau-Douglas 1
Soldotna picked up a nonconference road win over Division I opponent Juneau. Jazzalynn McDonald scored in the first half off a Sadie Lane assist to even the game at 1-1. In the second half, Jillian Duncan netted the game-winner as the Stars held off the Crimson Bears.

 

With the win, Soldotna improved to 5-4 overall and continued building momentum.

 

Soldotna Boys 0, Juneau-Douglas 3
After traveling to Juneau early in the morning, Soldotna fell 3-0 to the Crimson Bears. Luke Hillyer kept the Stars in it early, holding the score to 1-0 at the half with several impressive saves.

 

Juneau pulled away in the second half as fatigue set in for the road-weary Stars, who dropped to 7-3 overall.

 

Redington Boys 8, Nikiski 0
The Bulldogs fell to 0-4 after a rough first half against Redington led to an 8-0 loss. Head coach Horst Haunold noted the team improved in the second half and credited goalkeeper Emily Brannen, along with midfielders Dylan Hall, Shane Hall, and Jaxson Young for their effort.

 

Despite the loss, Nikiski showed signs of improvement and resilience.

 


Friday, May 9

Kenai Girls 3, Palmer 0
The Kardinals shut out Palmer 3-0 to improve to 8-2 overall. Kenai scored all three goals in the first half—Kate Wisnewski from Sarah Baisden, Christine Goering from Ellee Pancoast, and Brynnen Hanson also from Pancoast.

 

Maddie Malone secured the clean sheet in net, and the defense stayed composed to protect the lead throughout the second half.

 

Kenai Boys 1, Palmer 1
Kenai and Palmer battled to a 1-1 draw in a dramatic finish. In stoppage time, Cole Langham converted a penalty kick to give Kenai the lead, but the Kardinals were called for a handball moments later, and Palmer scored on the ensuing PK.

 

Kenai moved to 6-4-2 after a match that featured standout midfield play from Enrique Mercado and Carson Grimm.

 

Soldotna Girls 2, Ketchikan 1
Sadie Lane scored twice to lead Soldotna past Ketchikan on the road. Lane opened the scoring in the 34th minute on an assist from Kendra Rose, then converted a corner kick from Alexis Verba late in the second half.

 

Ketchikan scored with 30 seconds left to deny the shutout. SoHi improved to 6-4 overall.

 

Soldotna Boys 1, Ketchikan 0
The Stars earned another shutout win thanks to a 75th-minute header from Trae Pitsch, assisted by a deep free kick from goalkeeper Luke Hillyer. Hillyer also posted the clean sheet. Soldotna moved to 8-3, grinding out the result despite playing shorthanded and sleep-deprived on the Southeast road swing.

 

Grace Boys 5, Nikiski 1
Levi Ellis scored his first varsity goal in Nikiski’s 5-1 loss to Grace. Dylan Hall had a strong showing in goal, while Jayden Anderson and Frank Nasibog led the defense.

 

Despite the score, Coach Haunold said it was the Bulldogs’ best match of the season and praised the players’ execution and effort in their new formation.

 


Saturday, May 10

Kenai Girls 12, Houston 1
Kenai closed out its Southeast trip with a dominant 12-1 win over Houston. Brynnen Hanson recorded a hat trick, while Tait Cooper, Sarah Baisden, and Kate Wisnewski each scored twice. Lylah Smith, Christine Goering, and Evelyn Cooper also found the net.

 

The win capped a 3-0 road stretch and lifted the Kardinals to 9-2 overall.

 

Kenai Boys 3, Houston 0
Bradley Morrison earned his second clean sheet of the trip as Kenai topped Houston 3-0. Ryker Dykema led with two goals, and Sawyer Vann added one more. Assists came from Reid Titus, Brett Goldsby, and Vann. Enrique Mercado controlled the midfield, while Dakota Wisnewski shut down Houston’s top attacker. Kenai moved to 7-4-2.

 

Soldotna Girls 3, Ketchikan 2
Sadie Lane continued her scoring streak with two goals and an assist in Soldotna’s 3-2 win over Ketchikan. Lane scored in the 34th minute, then assisted Alyssa McDonald four minutes later. Lane added a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

 

The win completed a 3-0 Southeast swing and moved SoHi to 7-4.

 

Ketchikan Boys 3, Soldotna Boys 2
Soldotna rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit but fell 3-2 on a stoppage-time deflection. Simon Willets converted a penalty to start the comeback, and Daniel Heath headed in a free kick from Hillyer to tie it.

 

Ketchikan scored in stoppage time off a deflection to hand the Stars their fourth loss, dropping SoHi to 8-4.

 

Palmer Boys 13, Nikiski 0
Nikiski wrapped up its road trip with a tough 13-0 loss to a dominant Palmer team. Head coach Horst Haunold praised his team’s relentless effort despite fatigue. Dylan Hall was named player of the game for his determination in goal. Jayden Anderson and Frank Nasibog continued to lead the back line.
