A two-run blast over the centerfield fence in the fifth inning for SoHi’s Cody Quellland and an insurance run in the sixth pushed the Soldotna Stars baseball team past the Kodiak Bears 3-2 in Northern Lights Conference baseball action on Thursday in Soldotna.
Trailing 1-0 to the Bear in the bottom of the fifith inning, Quelland lifted a ball into a strong tailwind and plated two runs, earning two RBI. Trapper Thompson drove in SoHi’s third run with an RBI single in the sixth.
Logan Smith threw a two-hitter for SoHi, striking out seven and allowing two, unearned runs. SoHi earns its first Northern Lights Conference victory.
The Bears play the Kenai Kardnals in Kenai on Friday at 6 p.m.; then travel back to Soldotna to battle the Stars on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Three and a half hours and 38 runs later, the SoHi girls softball team defeated Kenai 22-16 in Southcentral Conference softball action in Kenai.
