SoHi Baseball Wins Division II State Championship

The Soldotna Stars pounded-out 14 runs in the ASAA Division II Baseball State Championship Game defeating Petersburg 14-4 in Saturday’s championship game at Wasilla High School.

The Stars post the first-ever baseball championship for Soldotna High School closing-out a three-game run through the state tournament bracket with earlier wins over grace Christian 15-1 and North Pole 9-8.

SoHi entered the tournament as the #2 seed from the Southcentral Conference; Petersburg represented Southeast Alaska as an at-large selection.

 

Atticus Gibson, Andrew Pieh, and Trenton Ohnemus were named to the ASAA All-Tournament Team.

Championship Game Recap: SoHi 14 – Petersburg 4

SoHi starting pitcher Atticus Gibson pitched a five inning, 4 run, four strikeout championship game and managed to drive in the 14th and final run in SoHi’s 14-4, five inning, mercy -rule victory over Petersburg on Saturday at Wasilla High School.

The Stars claim the 2022 ASAA Division II State Baseball Championship.  Gibson lead the way on the mound and at the plate recording a 3 for 4 day with two doubles, a triple and 3 RBI.  Gavin Jones went 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBI; Nate Mowery was 2 for 2 with two runs scored; Jacob Belger scored two runs and Derrick Jones added two RBIs and Riley Johnson scored two runs.
