The SoHi Stars and Homer Mariners boys turned Tuesday’s non-conference basketball pairing into a fourth-quarter, free throw shooting contest with the Stars defeating Homer 51-47 at Homer High School.
SoHi 51 – Homer 47
The Soldotna boys connected on 8 of 12 free throws down the stretch for a 51-47 win over the Mariners. Homer managed to convert only 8 of 20 free throws for the contest.
The Stars built an early 16-13 lead, only to allow the final four points of the first half to Homer for a 25-25 halftime tie. SoHi lead 36-34 after three quarters and held-off the Mariners for the 51-47 victory. Maleda Dembrock lead the Stars with 18 points; Homer’s Carter Tennison topped the Mariners with 25 points.
SoHi (girls and boys varsity) faces Northern Lights Conference opponent Wasilla on Friday and Saturday, January 14-15 at Soldotna High School. Friday’s varsity games times are scheduled for 6 & 7:30 p.m.; Saturday’s games are set for 3 & 4:30 p.m.
Ninilchik Rolls Over Effie Kokrine
The Ninilchik Wolverines recorded a pair of blow-out victories in Fairbanks on Tuesday, defeating Effie Kokrine in 2A Interior Conference basketball.
The Wolverine girls downed the Warriors 66-4 and the Ninilchik boys defeated the Warrior’s 75-19. Effie Kokrine is a charter school in Fairbanks with between 150-200 students.
