The Soldotna boys battled Wasilla in the Northern Lights Conference Basketball Championships consolation game on Friday falling to the Warriors 78-67 in a contest in which the Warriors proved to be just a little better in each quarter.
Wasilla 78 – SoHi 67
The Wasilla Warriors, led by a 30-point effort by Dylan Jeffus, methodically built a double-digit lead in the first half and held the lead for the 78-67 win over SoHi, eliminating the Stars from the NLC basketball tournament.
Wasilla opened with a 20-11 lead in the first quarter and a 39-27 lead at the half. Jeffus hit seven, three-point baskets for Palmer.
Meleda Denbrock matched the effort with a 29-point game for the Stars. Jakob Brown added 17 points with five, three point baskets for SoHi.
SoHi closes the tournament with an 0-2 record; the remaining teams in the tournament continue play with the championship, third-place and fourth-place games still to be determined.
The NLC champion and runner-up automatically qualify to the ASAA 4A State basketball Championships. The third and fourth place teams are eligible for at-large berths to the state tournament.
