The 2019 Anchorage Kia Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout basketball tournament, featuring four days of high school basketball with many of Alaska’s top girls basketball teams, opened play on Wednesday with eight games; which included opening round games for the Kenai Kardinal girls and Soldotna Star girls.
Wednesday’s first round winner’s are placed in the Gold Bracket and first round loser’s in the Maroon Bracket. Both brackets will continue with three days of competition culminating on championship Saturday.
First Round Results: SoHi and Kenai
SoHi Girls 58 – Ketchikan 35
The Soldotna Stars, on the strength of a 19 point first quarter and 21 point third quarter overpowered Ketchikan in SoHi’s opening round pairing. Brittani Blossom recorded five three-pointers and lead the Stars with 17 points. Itu Tuisaula added 14 point for the Stars, including 10 points in the first quarter.
SoHi advances to the Gold Bracket and will face tournament host Dimond in Thursday’s 8 p.m. game.
Dimond 59 – Kenai 38
The Dimond Lynx girls outscored Kenai 26-6 in the first quarter, enroute to a 59-38 victory over Kenai. The Kardinal girls drew to within 15 points in the second half; however, faded to a 21-point deficit. Jaycie Calvert, Logan Satathite and Brooke Satathite each scored eight points to lead the Kards.
Kenai moves to the Maroon Bracket and faces Ketchikan on Thursday in the 6:15 p.m game.
