SoHi Earns Five Individual Championships At NLC Tournament: Star Boys Finish Runner-Up In Team Standings

Soldotna High School collected five Individual championships, three in the girls competition and a pair in the boys division of the Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Championships held at Colony High School.

 

The Colony Knights proved too powerful and too deep for the rest of the NLC as the Knights won nine, individual titles and recorded 501 team points for the NLC team title. The Soldotna boys held-off Wasilla and Palmer for the runner-up for the NLC wrestling tournament.

 

NLC Boys Competition

Individually, the Stars wrestled to a pair of weight-class championships with freshman Scott Michael topping the 125-pound division and junior Sean Babitt winning the 171-pound weight class.

Other Top Six finishes for SoHi: Zach Burns, junior, 2nd at 140 ponds; Dennis Taylor, junior, 2nd at 152 pounds; Salvatore MacMaster, 4th at 103-pounds; Hunter Secor, 3rd at 112 pounds; Simon Secor, 4th at 112 pounds; Ezekiel Miller, 3rd at 119 pounds; Rollin Madden , 5th at 119 pounds; Justin Bordelon, 6th at 125 pounds; Isaac Chavarria, 3rd at 130 pounds; Jakob Brown, 4th at 130 pounds; Edgar Land, 6th at 135 pounds; Hunter Richardson, 4th at 140 pounds; Aiden Willets, 5th at 160 pounds; Jordan Henley, 6th at 160 pounds; Logan Katzenberger, 6th at 215 pounds; Max Rogers, 5th at 285 pounds

The top five in each weight class automatically advance to the ASAA Division I State Wrestling Championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 20-21 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

 

NLC Girls Competition

Three individual weight class championships were earned by SoHi girls in the NLC girls competition.

Vydell Baker placed first in the 125-pound division; Trinity Donovan won the 145-pound division and Amanda Wylie topped the field in the 160-pound weight class.

All three advance to the ASAA Girls State Wrestling Championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 20-21 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
