SoHi Finishes 8th At State 4A Wrestling: Homer Earns Runner-Up In 1-2-3A Division

The Soldotna Stars performed well at the ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships placing five wrestlers in the top-six in their respective weight classes.  The Colony Knights won the 4A division team title, followed by Wasilla.

In the 1-2-3A state tournament, the Homer Mariners placed second in the team scoring to Bethel and the Mariners were unable to defense their 2015 state championship.  Homer wrestlers did win five individual weight class championships.

 

4A State Wrestling Championships

The Stars top finishers ranged from 98 pounds to 170 pounds. Logan Craig finished fourth in the 98-pound division; Gideon Hutchison placed fourth in the 113-pound weight class; Bechler Metcalf recorded a third overall in the 152-pound division; Austin Schrader and Abraham Van Hout finished fifth and sixth in the 170-pound weight class.

Kenai Central’s Keyshawn McEnerney narrowly (8-7) lost in the 152-pound final for a second place finish in the large school division.  Jacob Anderson placed sixth at 138-pounds for the Kardinals.

 

Girls State Wrestling Championship

SoHi’s Vydell Baker finished tied for 8th in the 132-pound girls division.

 

1-2-3A State Wrestling Championships

The Homer Mariners totaled five weight class champions including: Luciano Fasulo, 126 pounds; Jared Brant, 138 pounds; Timmy Woo, 160 pounds; Tristen Cook, 170 pounds; and girls 145-pound champion McKenzie Cook.

Nikiski’s Tyler Litke placed second in the 220-pound weight class.

Maxim Kusnetsov of Voznesenka won the 98-pound weight class in the 1-2-3A division. Nikit Anufriev of Voznesenka placed 6th at 170-pounds and Dia Martishev of Voznesenka placed fifth at 126-pounds.
