The Soldotna Stars celebrated a dominating performance over Kenai in a 63-8 victory over the Kardinals, closing-out the regular season for both programs on Saturday at Soldotna High School.
The Stars fine-tuning their offense and sharpening the defense for a playoff run for a ninth-straight Division II state championship.
Then, the reality of a covid-influenced fall sports season raised up.
SoHi learned that the Division II football playoffs first round contest against Eagle River, scheduled for October 16th, is cancelled due to a positive result within the Wolves football program. Eagle River football has been placed on a 14-day quarantine which effectively ends the Wolves season.
SoHi automatically advances to the ASAA Division II football championship game scheduled for October 24th; the Stars will play the winner of the Palmer vs West Valley game, if all involved can remain covid-free, if the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, Mat-Su School District or Fairbanks School District allow travel, and if ASAA can select a game location agreeable to all parties. That’s all!
SoHi 63 – Kenai 8
The Soldotna Stars scored on their opening drive and scored on their ninth drive and scored on every drive in-between, en-route-to a 63-8 victory over the Kardinals. SoHi’s offense produced nine rushing touchdowns by eight different ball carriers through just over three quarters. The Stars defense generated two Kenai fumbles and an interception, allowing only a late Kenai score.
