SoHi Football Pounds Patriots: Kardinals & Bulldogs Drop Home Openers

Week two of the high school football season opened with a pair of Friday night (minus the lights) contests for SoHi and Kenai and a home Saturday game for the Bulldogs.

The Soldotna Stars improved to 2-0 on the season and increased the programs state-best winning streak to 41 straight games.

The Kenai Kardinals dropped to 0-2 falling to Service 46 -13; and Nikiski was shutout 52-0.

 

SoHi 57 – North Pole 13

The Soldotna Stars football program continued its dominance over Medium School division teams with a 57-13 dismantling of the North Pole Patriots on Friday night at Soldotna High School.

The Stars scored on their first possession and first play from scrimmage with a 41-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Crowder to Levi Hensley.  The Stars added three rushing touchdowns: an 18-yard rush by Austin Schrader, a 2-yard touchdown by Brenner Furlong, and a 14-yard rush by Austin Schrader.  SoHi’s Andy West recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown and Crowder threw for two additional touchdowns, one of 10-yards to Levi Hensley and one of 7-yards to Jace Urban.

SoHi lead 51-6 at the half.

Each team added a single, second half touchdown; SoHi scoring on a 33-yard run by Cody Quelland.

Final Score: SoHi 57 – North Pole 13

 

Kenai 13 – Service 46

Service built a 33-0 halftime lead against the Kardinals in Kenai’s home opener on Friday night; the Cougars grounding the Kardinals 46 -13.

Kenai scored two, second half touchdowns; one on a Chase Gillies 10-yard touchdown run and the other on a Gillies to Heiber 16-yard touchdown pass.  Gillies threw for 215 yards on 17-36 passing and five interceptions.

Final Score: Service 46 – Kenai 13

 

Nikiski 0 – Thunder Mountain 52

Unable to sustain a drive and amassing only 40 total yards, the Nikiski Bulldogs suffered a 52-0 shutout to Thunder Mountain.  The Bulldogs managed only three first downs and were lead on offense by Matt Minium with 63 rushing yards. Thunder Mountain recorded seven touchdowns, a safety and a 43-yard field goal.

Final Score: Nikiski 0 – Thunder Mountain 52
