Redemption, retaliation, or simply restating their dominance of Alaska football, the Soldotna Stars dismantling of Division I West Anchorage 49-6 reaffirms SoHi’s status as the gold standard of Alaska football.
The Division II Stars controlled Friday night’s football season-opener from the opening kick-off; the Stars recording their 69th victory in 70 games since 2012 and the Stars have now defeated 12 of 13 Division I opponents since 2015.
SoHi 49 – West Anchorage 6
The vaunted Soldotna offense, even with 49 points, seven touchdowns and nearly 400 total yards of offense, took a relative back-seat to the Stars stifling defense.
The Stars locked-down the Eagles for the entire first half forcing a pair of 3-and-outs on West’s first two possessions.
Then, the SoHi defense combined penetrating line pressure with smothering coverage to intercept four passes on the next four possessions for the Eagles. Wyatt Medcoff picked off three passes and Jersey Truesdall stole a pass to end West’s only threat on the SoHi 10-yard line. West totaled under 100 yards in the first half and mounted one 65-yard drive for a lone touchdown in the second half.
