Sohi Hockey Closes-Out DI State With 5-3 Loss To Wasilla

The ASAA Division II State Hockey Champion Soldotna Stars closed-out play at the ASAA Division I State Hockey Championships on Friday with a 5-3 loss to the Mid-Alaska Conference Wasilla Warriors.

 

Wasilla 5 – SoHi 3

The Stars three times rallied from a one-goal deficit to tie the game against the Warriors, only to allow two, mid-third period goals in a 5-3 loss to Wasilla; eliminating SoHi from the Division I championships.

Trailing 1-0 after one period, following a goal by Wasilla’s Mason Holler; Silas Larsen scored just :55 seconds into the second period, with assists by Boone Theiler and Mycah Booth, to draw the Stars even at 1-1.  The Warriors then capitalized on two SoHi penalties scoring back-to-back, power-play goals for a 3-1 lead.  The Stars answered with a second Larsen goal and trailed 3-2 after two periods of hockey.

SoHi evened the contest at 3-3 just :10 seconds into the third period with a goal by Boone Theiler with assists by Larsen and Jace Applehans; that would prove to be the final goal for the Stars.

Wasilla’s Sayer Sanders scored a short-handed goal at 5:42 and Easton McRee added an insurance goal at 8:35 for the 5-3 victory for Wasilla.  The Warriors advance to the 4th place game on Saturday at noon at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
