Bouncing back from an overtime loss in the semi-final and a missed opportunity at a first Division II state hockey championship is hard!
The Soldotna Stars hockey team struggled on Saturday to score and fell 3-1 to Juneau-Douglas at the ASAA Division II State Hockey Championships at the Curtis D. Menard Arena in Wasilla.
SoHi 1 – Juneau 3
The Stars bombarded Juneau with 41 shots on goal; however, SoHi lit the lamp just once in the 3-1 loss to Juneau.
Galen Brantley III scored the Stars only goal on a power-play early in the third period.
Division II State Championship Game: Palmer 6 – Homer 5 Overtime
The Palmer Moose claim the first Division II hockey state championship with a 6-5 overtime victory against the Homer Mariners in Saturday’s championship game.
Palmer recorded its second-straight, overtime tournament victory; the Moose downed SoHi 4-3 Friday night with an overtime goal just 2:30 into the extra period. SoHi and Palmer faced-off three times in the season with the Stars winning the both conference games 3-2 in overtime and Palmer surviving 4-3 in overtime at the state tournament.
