SoHi Hockey Late Goal Downs Crimson Bears: Mariners Sink Kards

SoHi’s Boone Theiler lit the lamp with the game-winner for the Stars on Friday night, scoring with only 2:16 remaining in regulation to break a 3-3- tie and push SoHi to a 4-3 Railbelt Conference victory over the Juneau Crimson Bears.

SoHi 4 – Juneau 3

SoHi trailed early after a Sam Bovitz goal gave Juneau a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.  SoHi’s Silas Larsen tied the game at 10:20 of the first period.

In the second period, Theiler scored just :22 seconds in for a 2-1 SoHi lead and Larson added his second goal at 4:09 for a 3-1 Star advantage.  Juneau rallied with back-to-back goals by Andre Peirovi, tying the game at 3-3 after two periods.

The third period featured multiple power-plays, including SoHi battling through a 4:45 Juneau power play to open the period.  Theiler scored the game-winner at 12:44 of the third period and the SoHi defense held-off a 6 on 4 attack by the Crimson Bears in the final minute.

In goal, SoHi’s Tanner Clyde recorded 18 saves on 21 shots and Juneau’s Mason Sooter recorded 19 saves on 23 shots.

 

SoHi will return to the ice at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Saturday to face the Homer Mariners in Railbelt Conference play.  Game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Homer 4 – Kenai 1

The Mariners broke a 1-1, first period tie with three, unanswered goals, one in the second period and a pair in the third period.  Landen Cialek scored the Kardinals’ only goal.

Kenai faces-off against Juneau on Saturday at noon at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility.
