The first two meetings between SoHi and Homer on the ice produced overtime victories for the Stars; Saturday in Homer, SoHi produced its highest point total with a 5-1 victory over the Mariners.
SoHi 5 – Homer 1
The Stars opened with a two-goal, first period with Spencer Kapp opening the scoring at 5:21 of the first with an assist by Josh O’Lena. Silas Larsen scored at 9:43 for the Stars with an assist from Kapp to spot SoHi a 2-0 lead after one period.
The Mariners posted the only second period goal with Karl Wickstrom scoring at 13:07.
SoHi recorded three, unanswered goals in the third period. Aiden Burcham (3:05), Andrew Arthur (10:56) and Gavin Hakkenson (12:36) scored to push the Stars lead to 5-1.
In goal for the Stars, Aiden See recorded 19 saves on 20 shots; Homer’s Blaise Banks turned away 25 of 30 shots.
The Stars and Mariners face-off on Friday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, Homer’s final game of the regular season.
The Stars and Kardinals close the regular season on Saturday with a noon contest at the Kenai Multipurpose Arena.
